DIY Cough Drops With Our Elderberry Kit
Everyone in our home has been under the weather lately and this always calls to make a batch of elderberry juice. Coughs have been rampant so homemade cough drops to the rescue! Surprisingly easy to make and effective - give these a try with your elderberry juice as well. I like to keep half of my mason jar for juice and use the other half for these homemade cough drops.
What You Need:
1 cup of prepared elderberry juice (1/2 of your mason jar)
1/2 cup raw sugar
Organic powdered sugar (optional)
Candy/Lollipop mold
Candy thermometer
Instructions:
Pour your ingredients into a stainless steel saucepan over low heat.
Stir until the honey is mixed in well.
Increase heat to medium and clip your candy thermometer to the side of the pan.
Let the heat build to 300 degrees, still stirring every few minutes.
Once it reaches 300 degrees, let it sit for a few minutes.
Sprinkle powdered sugar over mold; this helps with stickiness later.
Pour mixture into mold holes and let them harden overnight. Sprinkle more powdered sugar over the top and remove them from molds. Store in airtight container or wrap each individually. Doing this will ensure they do not stick together.
